The Vasco da Gama was one of the biggest dredger vessel at the time. The dredger has the appearance of a supertanker. It is operated since 2000 by the Belgian shipping company Jan de Nul.
The excavator ship is not being deployed for classical tasks as cavity deepening or creation of moorings, instead it develops land reclamation by hydraulic sand-pumping for new harbour constructions, container- and VLCC terminals, refineries and other industries.
The „Vasco da Gama“ excavator ship performs at a top speed of 16 knots and is able to provide sand over great distances: its cargo capacity is 80 percent bigger than that of the world's other biggest excavator ships.
We drew up all design plans for the Vasco de Gama's interior.
